Lake Martha Association

Meeting Minutes

Monday, August 19, 2002

The meeting was called to order at 7:14pm at the home of Mike & Vicky Rydberg - 806 Halsey Ave SE. There were 17 members in attendance.

The minutes from the July 15th meeting were accepted as typed.

Joy Morris stated that the checking & savings accounts at the Oakley Bank in Buffalo were officially closed and had zero balances. The checking and savings accounts at Bank West, which were opened on July 12, 2002, have a total of $1, 538.42. The bills for the Lake Martha Annual Picnic will need to be paid – Mary Leffler assured that the total was less than $100.00.

The person that the cutter boats were purchased from has since retired. The predecessor will continue servicing and getting parts as needed. Paul said that the boats are currently dangerous. He said that all of the shafts are bent again and that they have been straightened three or four times before. It was clarified that years ago the Association bought two platforms and salvaged all usable parts from the previous three boats to rebuild the current two boats. Paul will call Hockney Underwater Weedcutters, Inc. for a bid on repairs to the current boats and for quotes on new boats. If a weed cutter company is hired the Forsbergs said that the weeds could be put on their land.

Mike Rydberg will invite the guy from Midwest Aqua Care Lake & Pond Management to the September meeting – he was unavailable for the August meeting.

The petition for paving Halsey is completed and it was presented to the Board, who passed it and scheduled the feasibility study for the Fall. Bill Tregaskis and Julie Kasa will handle trying to get 9th Street designated as "class A", so the paving would be completely paid for by the Township. The paving does not include curbs or storm sewers. The question of the road being paved wider than the dirt to include a shoulder or walk path has yet to be answered. The environmental concern of chemical runoff may cause Rockford Township to pave the roads without the petitions. Rockford Township may be afraid of Lake Martha petitioning for annexation into St. Michael, which could help assure that the roads will be paved.

Grinder pumps have been put in up to Kathy’s on Halsey. Eleven were tested and approved this past Friday. The workers are supposed to go back to Cooley’s and Scott Pearson’s. It is now being said that the project will not be completed this year – which only accounts for everyone being on-line and hooked-up; not the restoration being completed. There is supposedly a $200.00 per day penalty for the project not being completed on time.

Bill Tregaskis’ camera was out of film, so there are no pictures of the Lake Martha Fishing Contest Winners. Three boats were inspected and approved at the picnic.

The Lake Martha Hospitality Committee has plans to take cookies to the two new residents and to invite them to the Lake Association meetings.

Mike Rydberg said that he is working on some technical issues with security on the website.

Bill Tregaskis motioned to accept the newly written Lake Martha Association Mission Statement. Dave Tabbut seconded the motion and it was approved.

Mike Rydberg and Bill Tregaskis will complete the DNR survey for services and assistance needed that Kevin Potter received. The DNR is doing the survey as their government funding has been reduced.

Polly Wilheite mentioned that there are 200 sewer system slots available, that 135 are currently hooked-up, and 190 includes the empty lot stubs. She has been assured that if a person paid the initial amount for the ability to hook up to the city sewer that they are guaranteed to be able to do so at anytime in the future that they want. Even though there are 10 acres on Lake Charlotte that has been proposed to be subdivided. Those prepaid spots will not be used for such situations.

The number of and schedule of the Lake Association meetings will be debated and determined at the next meeting.

Craig Kasa motioned to adjourn the meeting. Mike Rydberg seconded the motion. The meeting adjourned at 8:39pm.
