Lake Martha Lake Association

Meeting Minutes

Friday, August 13, 2004

The meeting was called to order at 7:19pm at the home of Gary & Joy Duenwald – 779 Hansack Ave SE.  There were 11 people in attendance representing 7 households.

There was one correction made to the minutes from the July 9, 2004, meeting – the weird dam that Andy from the Wright County Soil & Water spoke of is actually called a weir dam.  Also Mike Rydberg gave a clarification of his homemade copper sulfate application apparatus – the 4-inch holes were in pvc pipe under the barrel containing the product & a valve that he had installed controlled the amount released.  The minutes were accepted noting these clarifications.

Joy Morris presented the treasurer’s report - as of June 29, 2004, the checking and savings accounts had a total of $1,790.08.  One more household paid dues bringing the total paid members to 38.

Craig Kasa said that the plan for the Annual Picnic is to have it catered by a Mexican grocery store located in Buffalo & that Bill Tregaskis was handling all of the food coordination.  Craig K. mentioned that he had received questions in regards to children not eating Mexican, to which he replied that he would put a few hotdogs on the grill.  The Annual Picnic Committee had proposed a $7.50 per person charge, with the Lake Association covering the remaining costs.  Craig listed the events as a bean bag contest, a fishing contest, swimming, the Kasa’s “park”, possibly a swimsuit contest like last year or a dunce contest for the craziest/dumbest stunt of the year, & the flotilla or a bonfire -depending on the weather.  Jeanni Tregaskis has already ordered the biff.  Craig K. & Mike R. will collect & return tables.  Julie K. will pick up the gift cards for the fishing contest.  Pam Scott asked if the catering company will provide the plates & silverware, to which Craig K. said that he would confirm.  The total guestimate of the picnic costs is $1,000.00, which would leave $700.00 in the budget for next year.  Craig K. stated that 29 people have responded to him & he’s not sure if anyone had only responded to Bill T.  Pam S. & Paul Johnson said that the money needs to be collected before the picnic.  Theresa Witstine said no weed treatment before you pay for the picnic.  Julie K. asked what the cost would be for guests – the same as a member was replied in unison.  Pam S. said that the purpose of the picnic was to invite all neighbors, so they would join the Association.  After much discussion over the cost & possible solutions to lower that amount, Dorothy Brede was known to be at home thus was called for a vote via phone to make a quorum.  Craig K. motioned & Jim Miller seconded that the first menu choice would be ordered & the cost per person would be $5.00 with people to bring their own beverages.  Craig K. said that he will modify the flyer for distribution in the black boxes, which Julie K. & Mike R. said that they could do on Saturday morning since Craig will be gone.

It was mentioned that a new build had started on the lot across the street from the Scott’s property.  Pam S. said that she thought the owners of the lot were building with the plan to sell the house upon completion.  Someone mentioned that a very steep vacant lot on Lake Charlotte next to the Kennedy’s sold for $190,000.00 in 2 days.

For future reference, Mike R. said that the Farm Supply store in Buffalo by the railroad tracks has copper sulfate priced at $23.00 per 50lb bag.

In Sue Brallier’s absence, Mike R. read that the last secchi disk reading was 6ft.

Mike R. mentioned that the cutter boats were now gone.  Thus, he proposed the removal of Article III, Section 6 of the bylaws in regards to cutter boats, as it is no longer pliable.  Craig K. asked about the trailers.  Mike R. said that he didn’t think they had been removed from the Forsberg’s barn yet.

Mike R. said that everyone should have any sick elm trees cut down ASAP, as the disease spreads quickly.  John Witstine & Pam S. said that the elm wood should not be stacked unless it is debarked, otherwise the disease could still spread.  It was mentioned that a few trees on the County property were dying.

Mike R. has a copy of the engineering plan for the pavement of Halsey.  The total cost is proposed at $1.035 million with an optional bike trail at an additional $300,000.00.  There would be a T with a 3-way stop at 6th, plus the possibility of Hamilton becoming a cul-de-sac.  John W. suggested that many people should go to the next Township meeting.

Mike R. motioned to adjourn at 8:30pm.  Jim Miller seconded.
