Lake Martha Lake Association

Meeting Minutes

Friday, June 10, 2005

The meeting was called to order at 7:20pm at the home of Bruce Biederman and Mary Leffler – 686 Halsey Avenue SE.  There were 18 people in attendance representing 11 households.

The minutes were accepted as written, with the clarification that the person renting out Willard’s house is the person who bought it from Willard.  Some people in attendance thought that it sounded as though Willard was the one renting it out.

Joy Duenwald presented her last treasurer’s report.  The balance of the checking and savings accounts as of June 9, 2005, was $1,708.08 and $441.88, respectively, for a total of $2,149.96.  Joy explained that it only took her 5 minutes to prepare for the meeting, since she has organized everything into one binder. Her duties include recording the checks that she has written on behalf of the Association and the interest earned into a ledger.  Also, BankWest sends her monthly statements that she reconciles with the ledger.  The Bank told her that transferring the treasurer’s position would involve her signing a document, plus giving them a copy of the meeting minutes that appoints a new official.  The new treasurer would only have to sign a new signature card if they currently bank at BankWest, otherwise the new treasurer would have to complete an application and have a credit check done.  Vicky Rydberg volunteered for the position.  Bruce B. motioned to accept her nomination.  Bill Tregaskis and Lance Scott both seconded the motion.

Angela Miller suggested an old fashioned block party for the Annual Picnic theme.  She said to have burgers and brats, a watermelon eating contest, etc.  Lance S. said to hire the same people as last year.  Several people agreed with Bill T. that it needs to be something different.  Paul Johnson & Mary L. said that they are in favor of a potluck.  Bruce B. mentioned a pig roast like several years ago.  Lance S. suggested grilling a bunch of pork loins.  Mike Rydberg said that he knows a guy with a huge grill and refrigerator combination that could handle a pig.  Last year the cost to the Lake Association was $315.00 without the hassle factor per Bill T.  Mike R. stated that the Annual Picnic Committee of the Tregaskis’, the Scott’s and the Kasa’s will create a list of choices for the next meeting.  All suggestions should go to the Julie Kasa.  Bill T. mentioned that he was at a reception in Tennessee who had Famous Dave’s BBQ cater it, which was very good and could be an option.

Angela M. will add the pie chart of “where your Lake Association dues are spent” as suggested at the last meeting by Mike R. to the 2005 Directory.  Joy D. was asked and agreed to create it.

Paul J. recorded a secchi disk reading of 11 feet and 6 inches on June 5th.  He said that it is difficult to see when the water is choppy.

Mike R. said that the curly leaf weeds turned brown, but didn’t fall.  He took pictures and sent to MidWest Aqua Care.  Also several individuals called MidWest.  They came back and resprayed areas this past Monday and now the weeds have fallen.  John Witstine said this is the first year he has seen weeds by his dock.  Sue Brallier said that this is the worst year for the curly leaf weeds on their side of the lake.  Mike R. mentioned that coon tail is a native weed, yet the DNR will allow people to treat for it if it becomes a problem.  Pam Scott said that MidWest needs to mark the public landing.  Mike R. stated that they haven’t been very receptive to his suggestions of that.  It was mentioned that Lake Charlotte currently has a lot of curly leaf weeds.

Mike R. said that Frank Forsberg had called him, so he and Brad Miller got the cutter boat trailer that was still on the property.  They also saw a raker boat underneath a large tree.  Brad M. spoke with Steve Hancock, who said that he would get a scrap metal guy to get rid of it.

Bill T. presented a letter from Onyx Waste Services that stated as of July 1, 2005, the Lake Association group discount rates were going to be raised for the first time since 2002.  The new rates will be $12.00 per month for the 65 gallon container and $14.00 per month for the 90 gallon container.  Sue B. and Mary L. stated that the new residents need to be a part of the group discount.  Joy D. or Mike R. will get the list of paid Association members to Angela M. to send to Onyx.  Angela M. will talk to Sharyl Miller in regards to mentioning this to the new residents as the Hospitality Committee.  Angela M. will also call Onyx to see if they will contact people for participation in the group discount at the new rates or if the Lake Association should do that.

Vicky R. proposed the creation of a certificate and a restaurant gift card to be presented to those who have served above and beyond.  Bruce B. said that he had suggested such a thing years ago, yet he was told that as a resident it is your duty to put in your time.  Bill T. suggested having a Sub-Committee of two people with a limited budget.  Paul J. suggested that the Hospitality Committee handle this.  Pam S. said that several years ago the officers got the benefit of not having to pay for the annual picnic.  Mary L. and Mike R. stated that the President doesn’t have to pay dues during his/her term.

Sue B. mentioned that she has someone that will come out to check for Elm trees.  If anyone is interested just contact her within the next week and she will inquire about a group discount.  Angela M. will send out an e-mail regarding this.  Mary L. said that she has a tree trimmer contact if anyone needs that service.

Bruce B. motioned to adjourn at 8:05pm.  Lance S. seconded.

After the meeting Theresa Witstine said that the officers could be “roasted” at the picnic when they are presented with their certificates.
