Lake Martha Lake Association

Meeting Minutes

Friday, July 19, 2007

The meeting was called to order at 7:17pm at the home of John & Theresa Witstine at 7426 Ninth Street SE.  There were 8 people in attendance representing 5 households.

The minutes from the May meeting were accepted as written.

Paul Jonson presented the treasurer’s report in Vicky Rydberg’s absence, which was accepted.  The balance of the checking and savings accounts as of July 2007, were $578.58 and $468.08, respectively.

Jim Miller mentioned that all of the required DSL signatures were gathered, sent to Denver, and we are now scheduled for deployment in mid to late September.

The last secchi disk reading was at 6 feet on July 13th.  Jim M. said that he looked up past reports and this depth seemed consistent.  John W. inquired whether or not the differences in the weather conditions, etc. had an impact on the readings.  Jim M. said that he reports the weather condition, the lake condition, and the visibility at the time of the reading.  This year the DNR took away the ability to enter the data on-line, so he mails the results.

Paul J. was going to do another copper sulfate treatment, but several people said that the lake looked good and to save it for August.  Lance Scott agreed and said to do it before the picnic.  Jim M. also agreed.

Paul J. mentioned that he has a picture on his abstract of the lake being a meadow from the lack of rain – he’ll try to find it to post on the web site.

Nancy Halagan said that some people were out looking at the culverts.  Pam Scott said that people were out two weeks ago and said that the paving would not be before the 23rd, but is suppose to be soon after that date.

Theresa W. & Angela Miller stated that the picnic committee hadn’t been able to coordinate schedules, so they have moved forward and the theme will be an all-American block party with old-fashioned games.  Decorations will be red, white & blue.  Activities will include an egg race, gunny sack races, a water balloon toss, carnival games, plus the traditional beanbag toss and “best dressed” competitions.  They said that the Lake Association would provide the meat – fried chicken, hamburgers & hotdogs – and everyone will bring a dish to share in order to incorporate the favored potluck idea from the last meeting and to save money.  Paul J. asked about a biff.  Nancy H. & Theresa W. said that one would be necessary.  Eric Witstine suggested a deep fryer, yet everyone in attendance agreed that it would be too much work.

Nancy H. said that Kevin Halagan is doing well.  She shared his journal of the accident and recovery, plus gave a thank you note to the Association.

John W. brought up the rock(s) by the bay – he thinks that the area should be marked since several people have hit it this year.  Nancy H. said that people in the past have said not to mark it, because if you live on the lake you won’t hit it and if you don’t live here too bad.  John W. also asked if anyone thought that it could be moved – he measured it at 16 inches under the water.  Theresa W. said that Dave Tabbut has walked out to it and said that there are several rocks.  He also mentioned that if a water skier wiped out on top of it they could get seriously hurt.  Nancy H. said to just put a buoy there, as milk cartons are cheap, and when the water raises then it won’t be an issue.  Lance S. suggested that we invest in a permanent marker.  Nancy H. stated that the fishermen would cut it because their lures get caught.  Jim M., Paul J., and Eric W. said to use a chain instead of a rope.

Nancy H. thought that the aluminum can recycling was a good idea for the Lake Association to do as a group.  Bees were brought up as a concern, so it was suggested to rinse the cans before putting them in the trailer.  It was also mentioned that the rain would help with that – when we got some.

Nancy H. motioned to adjourn at 8:17pm.  Lance S. seconded.
