Lake Martha Lake Association

Meeting Minutes

Friday, June 15, 2007

The meeting was called to order at 7:20pm on boats in the middle of the lake.  There were 18 people in attendance representing 12 households.

The minutes from the May meeting were accepted as written.

Vicky Rydberg presented the treasurer’s report, which was accepted.  The balance of the checking and savings accounts as of June 2007, was $1,253.58 and $467.80, respectively.  Another resident paid their membership dues that needs to be deposited, plus Craig Kasa has the $675.00 bill for 10 bags/500 lbs of copper sulfate for the algae treatments that needs to be paid.

Paul Johnson and a couple of the guys applied 300 lbs of the copper sulfate on June 13th.  Centra Sota gave the Lake Association a discounted price of $1.45/lb, plus a 10 cent per lb discount for buying such a large quantity.  Paul J. thought that the product they purchased this year was a better quality than last year.  Craig K. said that Centra Sota only needs a 1-2 day notice to get more bags.  He also suggested that if people wanted to purchase copper sulfate for personal use around their dock, to purchase it through the Lake Association and he will store it in his pole barn.  Paul J. volunteered to apply it for those people.  Just give one of them a call.  Craig K. proposed to buy 10 more bags for the Lake Association.  Mike Rydberg motioned it and Bill Tregaskis seconded.  Craig K. said that he would order the product on Monday.  Someone mentioned that it should be tax-free since the Association is a non-profit organization.

Jeanni Tregaskis inquired as to how much the Lake Association earned from Community Lawn Care with everyone that used them this year.  No one had an answer at this time.

Jeanni T. told the known details of Kevin Halagn’s accident while a Get Well card was passed around.  Dorothy Brede had thought of sending a plant once they were all back at home.  Jeanni T. suggested getting an activity since Kevin would be laid-up for a while – magazines, games, etc.  Polly Willhite and Mary Leffler supported that idea.  Julie Kasa mentioned a Blockbuster gift card.  Bruce Biederman suggested a Netflix subscription.  Bill T. said that Kevin would be able to get out a little, so maybe tickets to a movie theater.  Dorothy B. will take care of it at the appropriate time.

Dave Tabbut said that there were several people collecting signatures of residents in the area for the DSL petition.  Qwest has requested that 92 of the 105 homes be acquired.

Mike R. asked if everyone had received the letter that stated the road would be finished by Memorial Day – everyone laughed.  He said that a friend of his that works at Buffalo Bituminous stated that they haven’t been paid for a long time, so the rest of the paving may not be done for a while.  Paul J. brought up the question about the new culverts.  Jeanni T. asked if everyone was going to get sod by the edges of their driveways as was mentioned.  People didn’t think so.  Mike R. clarified that Knife River, who purchased Buffalo Bituminous – is who hadn’t paid them, not the Township.

Brad Miller suggested the recycling of aluminum cans as a fundraiser, as he has access to a grain bin, which could be put on Frank Summer’s empty lot.  Bruce B. and Mike R. confirmed that Frank S. had said last year that his lot could be used for such an activity.  Jeanni and Bill T. will ask him again since so much time has passed.

This year’s Annual Picnic is scheduled for Saturday, August 18th, on the beaches of the Witstine’s and the Miller’s.  Mary L., Julie K. and Angela Miller said to let the Annual Picnic Committee decide the details, but they asked for any ideas/suggestions.  The ideas that Angela M. had presented to the committee were thrown out to those in attendance – an old fashioned block party, an outdoor movie night, or a carnival.  Polly W. suggested paddle boat races or relay races.  Jeanni T. stated that the middle school and high school kids need to be included.  Julie K. said not to forget about the adults – it’s been kid focused lately - and mentioned having the floatilla this year.  Paul J. said to keep the picnic costs to a minimum and use the money for weed treatments.  He said that potlucks are good for that.  Polly W. added that we could do a themed potluck.

Craig K. said that we needed to change the date of the next meeting, as both he and Paul J. would be gone.  Theresa Witstine proposed to have it the following week on the 19th.  It was decided to do that even though Craig K. will still be gone – Paul J. as VP will run the meeting then.

Jim Miller and Dave T. motioned to adjourn because of rain.  Craig K. and Mary L. seconded it at 7:56pm.
