Lake Martha Lake Association

Meeting Minutes

Friday, May 9, 2008

The meeting was called to order @ 7:13pm at the home of Bruce and Mary Biederman 686 Halsey Ave. SE.  There were 14 people in attendance representing 9 households.

Craig K. has signed up the website for another year at $9.99.

Paul J. still has lawn care sheets if anyone wants to buy the fertilizer or weed control.

Scott asked about the buoy. Paul said he has it and will put it out.  Frank asked if he could find the rope. Paul said he thinks he has the coordinates on his boat.

Mary asked if we have leftover copper sulfate.  Paul said yes, we may not need to buy anymore this year.

The can wagon is about ½ full. There had been complaints from some residents of Lake Charlotte when the wagon was first put out regarding the word “beer”.  Nothing lately.  Rosie said to put a sign that says, “Welcome to Lake Martha- We are going green.”  Mary said to change the wording to read “ aluminum cans”.

Jim M. gave the treasurers report. $.20 in interest earned is the only activity.

The picnic date has been set for Aug. 16th.  It will be held at the Johnson’s yard.

Frank offered his vacant lot but there is no water access.  John asked about a rain date alternative.  Paul doesn’t think we need one.  Polly and Angela will be on the picnic committee.  Jim said we could ask the Scott’s if they would host it in their pole barn for a rain alternative.  Paul said that is a lot to ask of the Scott’s on short notice.  Between Brad and his garage, that should be plenty of space.

Mike said to call Tom Gertz and get scheduled for weed treatment. Last year they were late.  Theresa said that we had pods before they treated the lake and after the treatment they stayed green.  Paul said that if you are not happy with the results the company will re-treat.  Theresa wrote a letter to the company and was never contacted.  Bruce said that they should receive a rebate this year.  Mike said they won’t treat before the fishing opener.  Paul will call or email the company to get the treatment scheduled.

Frank brought up the issue of dogs running loose.  There are about 10 or so.  Mike said the township has jurisdiction regarding this issue.  Yagger has been called on and if he is called on again they will take him away and Frank didn’t want to do that.  Theresa said that she has called the Township regarding this issue and the township says that you need to catch the dog and tie it up until they get there.  She said that it isn’t possible to catch them.  Polly and Bruce both said that these dogs aren’t strays- they are all local dogs.

Secretary’s note:  I have attached the Township ordinance regarding dogs to help clarify any questions. Rockford Township Dog Ordinance

Angela brought up that Lake Charlotte has asked if anyone is interested in going in on the advertising for an area garage sale.  Mary said that the Lake Association should not pay for this. Theresa suggested having it on the same day as the Rockford City-wide sale. Paul said this should just be one on  an individual basis.

Polly asked what is expected of the host for the Lake association meetings?  Maybe people are not volunteering because they don’t want to host the party afterwards.  Rosie confirmed with Mary that the meeting host was just expected to have lemonade and cookies, which were served after the meeting.  Mike said that the reason for changing the meeting from a weekday to a Friday was to encourage more participation because of the busy weekday schedules and to allow for socializing afterwards.  Frank said that the summer meetings should be held out on the lake on a Saturday afternoon around 3:00p.  Most residents are already there and usually bring some food to pass so that doesn’t put a burden on any one person.  Dave asked if we want to move the meetings from Friday to Saturday.  Mary motioned to have all future June, July and August meetings on the lake on Saturdays at 3:00p. Bring your own refreshments and a dish to share.  Scott 2nd.  Dave asked about the Aug. meeting before the picnic.  The time will just be adjusted.

Paul motioned to adjourn at 7:54p. Bruce 2nd, Scott 3rd.

Secretary’s note:

The Johnson’s have since checked their calendar and their oldest son Brandon is getting married on Aug. 16th so they will not be able to host the picnic that day.  They could host it Aug. 2nd or 23rd.
