Lake Martha Lake Association

Meeting Minutes

Friday, April 17, 2009

· The meeting took place on the beach of Frank & Renee Summers.

· Called to order at 6:45pm.

· There were 9 Households present.

· Paul reported that we had 31 households sign up for weed treatment.  The same number as last year.

· Meeting schedule:  All 2009 meetings will be held on the lake on the 2nd Sat. @ 3:00p. In the event of bad weather, the following people will host.

May 16th: Paul Johnson  (This was moved to the 3rd weekend to space the meetings out better and in honor of Mother’s day.)

    June 13th:  Craig & Julie

    July 11th: Chad & Rachel

   August 8th: Before picnic (Host??)

   September 12th: Paul Johnson

· Frank raised a concern regarding the gravel that was left on the streets after snow removal this past winter.  Many others expressed a concern being that it was much larger than normal sand. It was suggested that we as individuals call Rockford Township with regards to cleaning it up and question if this will be an annual occurrence.

· The picnic committee is: Angela, Mary, & Polly (so far...others welcomeJ) Budget to be confirmed at next meeting.

· Paul explained that extensive research had been done regarding the large mass of floating weeds. It was determined that it is Coontail, a native plant.

The options that were considered are: Midwest Harvesting @ $225 per hour. (It takes about 3 hrs to clear an acre. The estimate was for $16,000.00.)

Midwest Aqua Care wasn’t sure the DNR would give us a permit to chemically treat it being that it is a native plant. Aqua Care also thought that this was a one-time growth due to the great water clarity it.

Sandy Frump could not ever remember seeing this on the lake before.  She also stated that the water is the best it’s ever been and brought up the fact that there weren’t any dead fish this year at ice out.

It was determined that it would be fine to run it over with the boats to chop it up.  Paul received a reference for a company in Pequot Lakes that has had great results with weed control at Lake Minnetonka. Paul will be following up with him to see what he would offer, and the cost.

· Thanks to Mike Rydberg for replacing the copper sulfate treatment barrel that was lost in the shed fire.

· Loni found copper sulfate for $50.00 at Centra Sota. Craig confirmed that our reserve is gone.  Others mentioned this would be a good time to buy.  Jim reminded us that we get a kickback from the lawn company.  Also we have $693.34 earmarked for copper sulfate.

· Craig will be renewing the website at the cost of $30-$40.

· The treasurer’s report is attached.

· Meeting adjourned @ 7:30p by Bruce, second by Craig.
