Lake Martha Lake Association

Meeting Minutes

August 14, 2010

The meeting was called to order at 1:18 pm by President Angela Miller.

Minutes from the July meeting were read and approved.

Jim Miller gave the treasurer’s report. The checking & savings balance totaled $2294.71.

Twelve bags of Copper sulfate were purchased for $1167.00. Paul and Bruce checked out prices and Centra Sota  still had the best price.

Jim also reported on the secchi disc reading at 8 feet on 8/8/2010.

Paul applied the second copper sulfate treatment on 7/30.

Theresa attended a meeting regarding the overflow culvert. People at the meeting were Nancy and Rick Dehmer, Lonnie Voit, and Julie Prince from Lake Charlotte, Roger Stradle from the DNR. The Dehmers had received a letter from the DNR informing them the second culvert in from the overflow culvert was not in compliance and needed to be removed. They were given a date of August 31 to comply. They have three options. Remove the culvert only, remove and replace the culvert with a culvert 24 inched or larger, remove the culvert and replace it with a bridge.  They had the option to file for an extension of time. The culvert has been a source of irritation between the two lakes for many years and past vandalism of the culvert was discussed. Rick commented on a Lake Martha resident calling and threaten to sue him. All parties have copies of the easement documents regarding the culvert and understand the terms.  At the end of the meeting Nancy Dehmer said she would call Angela when they decide what they plan to do about the non-compliant culvert.  Angela is working with the Dehmers on an agreement for clearing the overflow culvert. Members at the meeting asked Angela to offer the Dehmers help with the removal of the culvert. Help with people, equipment and financial.

The Lake Charlotte residents also requested the Lake Martha association contact MN Soil and Water and DNR regarding the trenching by the farmer across county 33. They had and would like us to do the same.

The public access and a possible new parking lot were discussed. Angela said at this time she was told there are no current plans to put in a new parking lot.  Lance said we do have some say on the number of parking spaces if the lot is built, based on lake size, and similar lake use.

Meeting was adjourned at 1:58 pm
