Lake Martha Lake Association

Meeting Minutes

July 18, 2010

The meeting was called to order at 4:03 pm by President Angela Miller.

Minutes from the June meeting were read and approved.

Jim Miller gave the treasurer’s report. The checking & savings balance totaled $3461.30

Jim also reported on the secchi disc reading at 3  1/2 feet on 7/18/2010. The lake clarity looked good compared to area lakes.

We approved the purchase of 12 bags of copper sulfate, Jim and Bruce will pick it up.

Angela gave a Lake weed treatment update. The second application was applied without a call from Aqua Care. We were told to check the box for the second treatment for permit purposes only, and all who check the box for the second treatment would get a call to verify they wanted the treatment. Kathleen, our contact person at Aqua Care, was on vacation at the time of the treatment. Joan, at Aqua Care said she called everyone that did not check the box for the second treatment, obviously there was some confusion. Angela talked to Kathleen and she talked to her boss Wade and Aqua Care accepted responsibility and everyone will get a call about the problem. But that has not happened yet.  Paul suggested sending an email, and may need to look into other companies. Some residents who received the treatment planned to not pay for it. The guy applying the treatment stated there were weeds around all the docks, that was disputed by the residents

The survey results for the picnic were in and are as follows.  16 households’ replied.

5 voted for option 1, 7 voted for option 2, 1 voted for option 3, and 3 did not have a preference. Planning to attend. Adults 29, Teens 2. Kids 6. 4 voted but would not be attending, 1 not sure. 9 adults and 3 kids possibly attending.  Option 2 was the Lake Association would provide meat for grilling and residents bring sides dishes and dessert. An invite will be sent out with info prior to picnic. Mike and Vicky volunteered to transport tables and chairs.

Angela gave an update on the IRS filing questions.  Our Federal non profit ID# was no longer active and Angela applied for a new one. The due date for non profit return is May 15, there are no penalties, late fees for fines if filed late. We are not current, but you do not do back filing, not necessary or possible. Lake Association dues are not personally tax deductable.

There were concerns regarding the overflow culvert, and who need to maintain it.

Lake Martha residents had cleared the culvert and weed whipped the area between the overflow culvert and the next culvert on Dehmar’s property. Nancy Dehmar sent and email expressing concern about people on their property without permission.  Mike and Brad talked to Roger Stradle at the DNR and he requested we talk to Nancy and Rick Dehmar before clearing the culvert. Brad also said Roger talked to him about possible idea to fix the drainage swale, like clearing it and putting in rocks. Also stated there maybe monies at DNR for this. Angela received a copy of the Easement for the overflow culvert on Dehmar’s land.  Per the Easement we need to request permission from Wright County and the property owners to go on their land to clear for water flow. Without permission we are trespassing. Mike made a motion to have the Lake Association make an agreement with the Dehmars for clearing the culvert and water flow area.

Mike said Lake Charlotte residents have been having Phosphate testing done in Lake Martha due to the digging by the farmer across county 33.

Meeting was adjourned at 5:09 pm
