Lake Martha Lake Association

Meeting Minutes

April 09, 2011

The meeting was called to order at 7:48.

The meeting minutes from March were approved.

Jim gave the treasures report. There is $3172.05 in savings and $131.65 in checking as of 4/9/2011. The treasurer’s report was approved.

There were 27 residents participating in this years weed treatment thru Midwest Aquacare.  We collect our association dues of $50 with the weed treatment sign up. Theresa and Angela will send out a letter about association dues to the residents that have not paid dues yet.

Bill Tregaskis signed up for the meeting and picnic on August 20th.  Julie and Craig Kasa signed up for the meeting on September 12.

Angela talked to Joe Jacobs about the new lake monitoring program Donna Miller brought up at the March meeting.  This program covers Aquatic vegetation monitoring.  They are looking for the amount of interest lake associations have in this and in forming a lake association coalition.  This program would be in addition to the water monitoring program we are doing now with Joe Jacobs.  The members present thought we should look into it further.  Sandy Frump commented on a program with the DNR that put Rotanode in Lake Rebecca that really did a lot of damage to the water there, and we should be cautious.  Also maybe we should not put in all the algae treatments, the water was clearer, but we were getting a lot more weeds (coontail).

John and Theresa attended a meeting with Rockford Township board members, Tom Larson from Lake Charlotte, and three people from Soil and Water.  The main purpose of the meeting was to get ideas to solve a problem with water drainage on 6th St on Lake Charlotte. The issue concerned possible increased or change to water flow since the sewer and road paving work was done. The Soil and Water people were out looking the area over and found other areas that were of far greater concern.  They talked about Legacy Money to help put in Water gardens to help with the water flow and erosion.

We talked briefly about the farmer on the south side of Co Rd 33 trenching in the pasture.  He was cleaning out existing drain tile, which he does not need a permit for.  He has stopped and was to have put up a barrier to prevent erosion.  There was some water monitoring, and only the first sample showed higher phosphorus level.

Theresa will talk to Fortins in Hamel about rain gardens and lake shore restoration.  We think, from the meeting with Soil and Water, we could tap into some of the Legacy money for Lake Martha.  We talked about the area between Kasa's and Giese's. Other individuals were interested in options for their property too.

Someone asked if the back waters had ever been dredged.  Dave and Dan said many years ago, yes.  Frank said he and Bob Halagan had looked into it some years back and the cost to dredge it was $50,000.

Bill was looking into the sand from Miller Trucking.  Some residents wanted sand, but did not get notified it was being delivered.

Jim, Scotty and Eric volunteered to work on the full load of cans.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:27.
