Lake Martha Lake Association

Meeting Minutes

Monday June 13, 2011

The meeting was called to order at 7:18.

May meeting minutes were accepted with the change adding Lance and Pam Scott's yard with Bill Tregaskis's for the picnic location.

The treasure's report was given.  The bank balances as of June 13th are, savings $2832.75, checking $382.79.  Jim will be ordering new check blanks next month.

Secchi Disk reading on June 7th was 15 feet, and on June 12th is was 14 1/2 feet.  Jim pulled grassy weeds for identification by Aquacare. Paul inquired about doing only one copper sulfate treatment and letting the algae go a little so the Coon tail does no get so bad.

Paul, Bruce and Brad crushed the trailer of cans this week and Brad will bring them in this week.

Paul inquired if we are out of copper sulfate and suggested someone check into cost.  Angela will check into pricing.

Angela reported on information received from Joe Jacobs on the Aquatic Vegetation Program.  One company's prices were $7 an acre, $1250  a lake. Another range from $3 to $50 per acre, depending upon if we provided someone from the lake to help on the boat to reduce cost.

Theresa gave a report on rain gardens after talking to Fortin Consulting, inc. of Hamel. Rain gardens are put in to prevent erosion and run-off going into the lake. Carolyn from Fortins is coming to look at a couple yards to advise on rain garden location.  Their  consulting fee is $85 per hour.  Fortins was one of the Companys Angela got information on, they also do 5 year plans for lakes.  I plan to take Carolyn out on the lake, she will be at our July meeting, where we will get a better idea of what a 5yr plan would be for our lake.

Angela asked for volunteers for planning the picnic.  Bill, Lance, Angela, Theresa and Sue volunteered.  Angela will set first committee meeting.  We will send e-mail for options on food for picnic.  Mexican was suggested, last time they catered the cost was $5 per person.

The large number of dead fish was brought up, was it caused by the weed treatment, hot weather or winter kill?  Thoughts were probably not the weed treatment was to long ago.  We had two very hot days and the dead fish showed up three days later.  Mostly small fish, but a few bigger fish also.  Thought someone should research it, but no one volunteered.  Pam asked about the very large snails they have noticed.  Many stated they have been here all along, Angela had 2 for pets for a while.

Someone inquired about hospitality for someone moving off the lake, did not think we did anything in the past.

Meeting adjourned at 8:00.
