Lake Martha Lake Association

August 18, 2012

Hi All,

As we will have 2 Board Members unable to attend on Saturday, I have decided
to post the following Lake update in lieu of holding the monthly meeting at
1:30 pm on Saturday, 08/18/12 prior to the picnic - we will hold our next
meeting as scheduled on 09/16/12:

Please find the July Minutes attached for review.

Secchi Disc - Last 2 readings were on 08/05 & 08/13.  Clarity on 08/05 was
3.5 ft with a surface water temp of 84 degrees, and 3.0 ft with a 78 degree
surface temp on 08/13.  Per the vote during our July meeting, I did purchase
an inexpensive water thermometer from Menards for $4.26.

The Association also voted in July to purchase 6 bags of Copper Sulfate to
have on hand in the event an algae treatment appears appropriate before the
season is over, however, I have not been able to pick this up.  I did stop
at the Country Store in Buffalo (where we have purchased before), however,
they only had 2 bags in stock and were to phone me when they got more.  They
have not called and I haven't had a chance to follow up with them.  So far
though, the lake seems to be holding up fairly well considering it is
Mid-August!!

Also per the last meeting, we will soon begin our new aluminum can
redemption process.  For those not aware, we will NOT be placing the grain
cart back on the corner of 9th St SE and Halsey as I've made arrangements
with the Can-Man out of Annandale to schedule bulk pick-ups of bagged cans.
This process is to eliminate the trash and filth that found its way into the
cart at times and the need to track down volunteers to clean out and bag the
contents.  With that said, I will send a reminder proposing that everyone
who is interested drop off your bagged cans (crushed or un-crushed) over the
weekend of Labor Day to our 2nd lot (with the new pole shed) across from
7412 - 9th St SE.

If everyone could please consider reserving a small corner of your garage,
tool shed, etc, to collect your used aluminum for approximately 60 days at a
time, I believe selling our cans for cash can still be a viable money maker,
bringing revenue to the Association to pay for things like Copper Sulfate
and the Annual Picnic!!  I will be inviting the folks over on Charlotte to
participate as well, since a clean Lake Martha helps sustain a clean Lake
Charlotte!!

Lastly, please note, the "Local Bandits" are at it again!!  For those who
read the email from Kyle Smeby regarding keys found in the road the other
day, you may be shocked to hear these were taken out of the ignition of a
car parked in the driveway of George Ladd's house on 9th St SE.  George's
son-in-law, Tony, inadvertently left his keys in his jeep for a very short
time before he went out to the vehicle to get a personal item.  When he
returned he found his console up and the keys missing.  Not sure if fear or
a brief snap back to intelligence struck the thieves, but obviously they
decided to abort whatever mission (steal the jeep later, maybe) they had in
mind.  Either way, please continue to be vigilant in keeping your doors
locked, talk to your neighbors, and keep an eye out for suspicious activity.
Anything noteworthy should be relayed to Deputy Ryan Ferguson at
763-682-1162.

Please let me know if there are any questions or additional input, and enjoy
the picnic for those who are able to participate!!

Jim Miller
