Lake Martha Lake Association

Meeting Minutes

July 22, 2012

Jim called the July meeting  to order at 7:07.

Minutes from the June meeting were approved.

Treasurer’s report was given and approved.  Checking and savings are $3956.76.

Secchi disc on July 15th and July 22nd was 5 feet.

There was a motion for Jim to buy 6 bags of Copper Sulfate. We have none on hand in case we need to do an application.  The motion was approved with Andy Brallier opposed and Dorothy abstaining.  John commented the weed treatment Aquacare applied on Thursday, July 12th included copper sulfate.  We will buy but not apply at this time.  The sprayer is at Paul Johnson's.

There was a discussion on purchasing a water thermometer .  There is a request for water temperature on the water sample form Jim does and Aquacare treats curly leaf partly based on water temperature.  Craig made a motion to purchase a water thermometer with a maximum price of $50.  Bill seconded the motion, and it was approved.   It will be kept with the water sampling supplies.

The picnic is on August 18t.  The association will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, condiments, plates, glasses, flatware, and napkins.  Angela and Julie will send out invitations and information on what people attending can bring either a side or dessert. They may also bring an item to grill if they do not want hamburger or hot dogs.

Julie Kasa suggested we consider having the winter picnic vs a summer one.  We do not see our neighbors much in the winter and may be fun to consider for next year.

Update for phone list tabled till August.

Update on aluminum can sales:  Jim talked to Alice at The Can Man.  They will pick-up our crushed and bagged cans, haul them to Minneapolis and charge us 10 cents a lb. We have averaged $400 to $500 in a year for the sale of cans.  There have been problems with people dumping garbage and worse in the trailer.  Coordinating people to help crush and bag the cans, time and cost of taking the cans to Minneapolis for the best price.  Jim suggested all participants crush and bag their cans, bring them to his second lot and every couple months we will have Alice from The Can Man take them to Minneapolis for sale.  Jim will set-up a schedule for drop off to his second lot in an e-mail to all.  Brad has the trailer full of cans and will work with Jim to get them ready for Alice to pick-up.

Andy made a motion to set-up winter party, all were in favor.  It will be on next month’s agenda.

Meeting adjourned at 7:50.
