Lake Martha Lake Association Meeting Minutes March 19, 2012
The March 2012 meeting was called to order at 7:09.
Minutes from September 2011 meeting were read and approved.
New officers were announced and introduced.
Treasures report was given and approved. On 3/19 the savings balance was
$2748.97 and checking was $364.44. Since the September meeting, bills
from the picnic were turned in and paid. A gift was given to Ladd's grandchild
Zander and flowers for Brad Skafte.
Jim covered the upcoming weed treatment. The DNR permit fee and Midwest
Aquacare costs are the same as last year. There was a question if we
want to consider raising association dues. We would like to get all property
owners on the lake to treat for weeds this year, then consider going on a
schedule rotation of treating every other year. Another thought was to treat
your area one year and donate the next year to treat an area that has never
been treated, like the north shore. That option my not be allowed, but worth
looking into. Treating curly leaf is still allowed at 100% of your shore
footage. The second treatment, covering coontail is allowed up to 50% of
shoreline footage. Coontail is not rooted, so floats around pretty freely.
We would like to see everyone clear out the weed within their shoreline, be a
courteous neighbor.
Paul Johnson said the professionals he talked to said the coontail grew in
three year cycles and this is the third year in the cycle.
Julie Kasa said cleaner lake produced more coon tail. Paul Johnson talked
about applying less copper sulfate. We did apply
less last year. Jim said it would depend on the algae, weather, early
rains. The cooper sulfate will knock down the algae in 3 days.
Sue Brallier and Jim will keep track of the water temperature for the best
time for the weed treatment. Dave Tabbut talked about skipping the first treatment and only doing the second treatment this year.
Bob Halagan requested additional weed treatment forms
for new neighbors.
Julie Kasa volunteered to host the April Association meeting on April 15th at
7:00pm.
Bob Halagan made a motion to continue the water sampling program for $250,
same as last year. Paul seconded it, and it was approved.
Jim was checking into up to date information on the COLA. The dues to join
were estimated to be very low and all were interested in
joining.
Angela and Theresa are coordinating with Lake Charlotte Spring Social, which
is planned for April 20th at Wild Marshes, 6:00 social hour,
7:00 dinner. They are looking for ideas to get people to interact more with
different people.
Directory.. We have decided not to do an updated directory as all the
information is on the website. Angela, Julie, Dorothy and Theresa
volunteered to do a laminated list for lake families with updated phone
numbers, e-mail addresses, etc. To be completed for the May meeting. Dave
will be kept in the loop for info to update the web site.
Jim asked for volunteers for the picnic, but was too early for that.
Talked about ice out dates. March 18th this year. Dan wanted to note that
Taylor Kasa , Bo, Zeke and Archie Brallier all went full on swimming that day.
Dorothy and Angela will be hospitality committee.
Jim will do Seechi disk reading and water sampling with Theresa and Paul as
back up.
Bob Halagan asked about checking boats at the access for weeds. Steve said he
seen it with a clip board of questions to ask and what to look for on boats
regarding weeds and checking live wells. Bob will talk to the DNR and report
at the next meeting.
Meeting adjourned at 8:00pm in the dark!!!!!!
PS COLA meeting 4/5/2012 Dues $25 One of us will attend.
