Lake Martha Lake Association

Meeting Minutes

May 20, 2012

Jim called the May meeting to order at 7:12.

Minutes from the April meeting were approved.

Treasurer’s report was given and approved.  Checks for COLA dues $25 and Water Sampling $225 cleared.   Balance as of 4/12/2012, checking $744.44 and savings $3,161.32.

Rachel Kugler offered to host the Lake picnic at her home.  Suggested could be held between her, Skafte and Jackson lawns.  We talked about the food for the picnic.  Julie Kasa suggested she could contact Jodi at River Inn Catering to give us an estimate for food.  They could do either traditional or ethnic food.  Julie said they catered the hockey banquet and the food was very reasonable and very good.  She thought there were about 50 people and the cost was $500.  We usually spend about $400 and attendees could contribute to the cost of the meal.  Jim will be sending out an email to get thoughts and estimate on number of people interested in attending.

John gave a report on the May 5th COLA meeting he attended.  They talked about the correct way to collect the water samples we turn in to Wright Co Soil and Water, flushing out the tube and keeping the sample cold till turned in.

A representative from The DNR talked about invasive species and gave out handouts.  John had the handouts at the meeting.  They covered the law about plugs needed to be removed from all boats in transit, even just from boat access to your yard. They will issue tickets this year, not just a warning.  The same applies to aquatic weeds. They need to be removed at the access.  Do not wait till you get to your yard.

Deputy Jake Hermensen assigned to handle water issues spoke about calls received to report boating and other problems on the water.  By the time they can respond to a call the problem is over or gone.  They would like a report filed to look if there is a pattern to problems on lakes so they can patrol during those times.  No one at the meeting thought there were problems we needed patrols for.  Dave will put the phone number for Deputy Hermensen on the lake web site.

Christine at the COLA meeting spoke about a law passed allowing the county to set-up a temporary wake restriction with the lake resident’s request.

Members at the COLA meeting asked about restricting the number of off lake boats allowed on lakes.  DNR said there is no limit and the Sheriff can only issue ticket for illegally parked vehicles in the area.  That was the end of Johns report on the COLA meeting.

Julie reported on the Lake Martha Phone list. She has some information and Dave suggested using the white pages on the internet, you can inquire by neighborhood, get addresses and phone numbers.  Jim will send her the email list of lake association member with updated email addresses.

Jim does the secchi disk and water samples Monday May 21.

Rachel noted the can trailer need attention and Jim said he would talk to Brad.

The June meeting is on the 24th at Jim and Angela Millers at 7:00.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:46.
