Lake Martha Association Email Poll

An Email from our President

Mar 31 at 10:45 PM

Hi all,

The Wright Co Coalition of Lake Associations had a phone conference this evening for Lakes interested in Zebra Mussel Monitoring Programs.

I am following up, per our last meeting on the Zebra Mussel monitoring program. I need a vote from the association members to move forward with the program. Please reply to this e-mail with a vote for or against. First 10 lakes signed up receive monitoring devices free.

This is the program.

The Wright County COLA has been working with U of M, Freshwater Scientific Service, the DNR and Wright Co Soil and Water to develop this new pilot program. It includes scraping and microscopic examination of the monitoring devices. The goal is to assist non-infected lakes with identification of juvenile zebra mussels. The testing will be done by RMB Lab, they do the other water monitoring program we participate in.

Our cost will be $160 the first year. From past experience with the water monitoring we do now, the cost will stay the same for many years. We will place 4 monitoring devices in May.  2 will be retrieved in July, and 2 in September. We will bring them to Wright Co Soil and Water in Buffalo on the same day we bring in our water samples.

This program requires very little work at a reasonable price. We can only try to prevent and monitor at this time with Zebra Mussels.

You can call with questions.

Theresa Witstine

Follow-up Email from our President

Hi,

We had 16 members respond with a yes vote to the Zebra Mussels Program. There were 0 no votes. We are in the first 10 lakes to sign up for the program and will receive our monitoring equipment at no cost.  Angela and Jim Miller have agreed to attend the May 7th training meeting. This is the Wright Co. COLA meeting at Annandale Middle School at 9am.  Wright Co Soil and Water will also do their annual Water Quality Testing training.  We are looking for a few more volunteers to take the training for back up when Jim and Angela are on vacation.

Thank You

Theresa Witstine
